FAQs

Have questions? We’ve got you. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, reach out. We’re happy to help.

Does BRIA prescribe medication?

Yes. BRIA offers comprehensive medical and psychiatric prescribing services tailored to women ages 18–65.

  • MD Psychiatrists can prescribe medications such as antidepressants or anxiety treatments following a thorough mental health assessment.
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs) can prescribe ADHD medications (including psychostimulants) or Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT) after specialized hormonal or ADHD evaluations.

We believe medication is often just one piece of the puzzle. Your complete care plan may also incorporate evidence-based talk therapy, sleep management, and lifestyle support—all available directly through BRIA.

To explore medication options, book a Care Consultation.

Do I need a doctor’s referral for BRIA?

No, you don’t need a doctor's referral to begin your care with BRIA. You can self-book your initial Care Consultation to get a personalized care plan and get matched with a therapist who’s right for you. Need a more in-depth Mental Health, ADHD, or Menopause Hormone Assessment? Your Care Coordinator will book this and send a referral letter to your primary care provider to sign.

Do I have to book a Care Consultation if I know which service I want?

BRIA’s Care Consultation is our mandatory gateway for all specialized medical care assessments, (including Mental Health, ADHD, and Menopause Hormone Assessments).

We also recommend booking a Care Consultation to get a personalized care plan and get matched with optimal service providers.

If you know exactly what you need, you can book the following services directly:

  • BRIA talk therapy and counselling services (for individuals and couples)
  • Implications Counselling (for third-party fertility planning)
  • Insomnia and sleep support
  • Nutritional counseling with a Registered Dietitian

You can browse services here.

Can I see a psychiatrist directly at BRIA?

We do not offer direct access to a psychiatrist. Instead, BRIA operates on a stepped care model to ensure you receive the exact level of support your symptoms require.

How it works:

  1. The Care Consultation: You’ll start with a 30-minute assessment with a Care Coordinator to understand your specific struggles.
  2. Medical Care: If concerning mental health or medication needs are identified, a Care Coordinator will recommend a Mental Health Assessment:, an in-depth assessment involving our mental health professionals and an MD Psychiatrist.
  3. Follow-Up: If our MD Psychiatrist prescribes medication, you’ll receive brief, targeted follow-up care to ensure your treatment is effective and well-tolerated.
Is BRIA covered by OHIP or private insurance?

Most services at BRIA require direct payment or extended health benefits coverage.

  • Private Pay/Insurance: Talk therapies and allied health services are not covered by provincial healthcare. Services provided by our Registered Psychotherapists (RP), Social Workers (MSW/RSW), Occupational Therapists (OT), Nurse Practitioners (NP), and Registered Nurses (RN) are billed directly to the client.
  • Covered by Government Health Care (OHIP): Any time an Ontario resident spends directly consulting with a BRIA MD Psychiatrist, it is fully covered by provincial health insurance. If you’re' are from another Canadian province or territory, you’ll be billed directly for the Psychiatry services.

Tip for Extended Health Benefits: Most private insurance plans, health spending accounts (HSAs), and workplace benefits packages offer excellent coverage for BRIA providers. Check your specific plan details to maximize your coverage.
