Virtual service aims to address gaps in women's menopause and mental health care

Dr. Ariel was thrilled to continue the dialogue about Menopause Mental Health Month on CTV Kitchener:
She emphasized these key points:
- Individualized Care Approach: Treatment for women navigating perimenopause and menopause must be tailored to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Care plans must take into account both the patient's comprehensive mental health history and their specific current symptoms.
- Comprehensive Treatment Planning: A proper treatment plan needs to integrate multiple components to address the complex interplay between hormones and mental health. Depending on patient needs, this can include psychiatric assessments, medication management, hormone assessments, individual/couples therapy, and sleep and nutrition support.
- Addressing Knowledge Gaps in Healthcare: Through initiatives like the BRIA Academy, Dr. Dalfen highlights the need to train healthcare and mental health professionals to better support women through reproductive and midlife transitions. The goal is to expand clinicians' understanding of how hormones impact mental health so that symptoms are recognized rather than overlooked.
